Rakautaua

 265

Rakautaua is the name of the land upon which this marae stands. The Whangaehu Valley primarily consists of the Rakautaua and Ruatangata land blocks.

The roof of this conference facility was built as part of the original buildings in 1982 and served as a covered in area between the ablution block and the whare kai, Te Aroha. Following the floods of 2004, the hapu decided to fully enclose the area and convert it into a conference room with its own separate kitchen.

The name Rakautaua was bestowed upon the building at its opening ceremony on the 27th of August 2005. It was officially opened by two of our kuia, Ruihi Manawaroa Te Aweawe and Annie Te Patu nee Thompson who passed away shortly afterwards.

Rakautaua is a fully equipped conference room seating 80-100 people conference style and comes with a full surround sound system, data projector and screen and wireless broadband.
